Relafen Medication - Uses and Side Effects

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Juliet_Cohen] Juliet Cohen Relafen Generic Name is nabumetone. Relafen is in a group of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).Relafen is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by arthritis. Relafen works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.RELAFEN (nabumetone) is a naphthylalkanone designated chemically as 4-(6-methoxy-2-naphthalenyl)-2-butanone. Nabumetone is a white to off-white crystalline substance with a molecular weight of 228.3. It is nonacidic and practically insoluble in water, but soluble in alcohol and most organic solvents. It has an n-octanol:phosphate buffer partition coefficient of 2400 at pH 7.4. The parent compound is a prodrug, which undergoes hepatic biotransformation to the active component, 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetic acid (6MNA), that is a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis. Relafen is acidic and has an n-octanol:phosphate buffer partition coefficient of 0.5 at pH 7.4.Free fraction is dependent on total concentration of 6MNA and is proportional to dose over the range of 1,000 mg to 2,000 mg. It is 0.2% to 0.3% at concentrationsNabumetone itself is not detected in the plasma. Approximately 35% of a 1,000-mg oral dose of nabumetone is converted to 6MNA and 50% is converted into unidentified metabolites which are subsequently excreted in the urine. 6MNA is more than 99% bound to plasma proteins. 6MNA exhibits pharmacokinetic characteristics that generally follow a one-compartment model with first order input and elimination. Relafen medication should not be used certain medical conditions. Relafen cause stomach bleeding. Daily use of alcohol and tobacco, mostly when combined with this medicine, may increase your risk for stomach bleeding. Before using Relafen tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, liver disease and poorly controlled diabetes. Check all prescription and nonprescription medicine labels carefully since many contain pain relievers/fever reducers (NSAIDs such as aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen), which are similar to this drug. Before using Relafen consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: aspirin-sensitive asthma, recent heart bypass surgery. Uses of Relafen medication Relafen can be taken with or without food. Take the forgotten dose as soon as you. Never take a double dose.It can be stored at room temperature and Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and away from moist places and direct light. Side Effects of Relafen medication Side effects cannot be anticipated. Relafen medication more common serious side effects may include is abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, fluid retention, gas, headache, indigestion, itching, nausea, rash and ringing in ears. These side effects are considered serious to Relafen. Juliet Cohen writes for [http://www.healthatoz.info/drugs/index.htm] drugs and medication. Math Anxiety - Is There A Dark Cloud Over Your Child’s Math Work?

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

By Ann LaRoche Are you tired of the yelling and cajoling to get your child to do his Math work? Are you tired of the tears of frustration as your child struggles to learn math and do math problems he does not understand? Are you tired of feeling helpless to help your child understand his math work, because you were never good at math in school? Are you tired of the complaints that math is boring and tedious and totally unrelated to anything in real life? Why is this? What is it about math that causes such pain and anxiety, turmoil and fighting, tears and anger? Is it math or our own fears of failure, of not being very good at math ourselves? Is it math or is it the method that we employ to teach math to our children? Is it math or an illusion of catastrophe if our child does not become proficient in this skill? In a series of three articles on Math Anxiety, I will be addressing these points. Personally, I dont think it is math. Math is ancient. People have been learning math for centuries. Even in this country, people learned math, were profitable in business and industry, and our nation became great. Basic math or accounting was the foundation of every household and business. More complex math enabled us to create great inventions and great engineering feats. We even put a man on the moon. We accomplished all this because of our nations ability to do math. Math is not hard. It is a basic skill, like reading. Yet no one would admit to not being very good at reading. I think the problem is with how we view math, as this awesome hard thing other people do. I read a wonderful historical fiction book called Carry on, Mister Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham. Set just before the American Revolution, the main character, a self-educated young man who taught his shipmates how to do a lunar sighting. A lunar sighting is a navigation calculation for determining your ships position while out at sea. My first thought was of awe. I could not imagine the complex math that was involved in doing a lunar sighting. I thought the math was more than I could ever do. Why did I think that? What is the math thats needed to do a lunar sighting? I dont know. So why did I assume that it was more than I could do? Shame on me! The book had just related that this young man was teaching his shipmates how to do these calculations. His shipmates were uneducated men and boys. Here I am with a B.A. in mathematics, a college graduate, a good education in one of the most advance nations in the world and Im thinking that this math is beyond me. This in itself is very revealing of the mindset towards math in America. What is your mindset? Do you assume the math will be too hard before you even try? Do you convey this mindset to your children? It’s time to change this negative attitude towards math. Start with doing something fun that involves math, like figuring out how to do a lunar sighting. Math is not hard. Math is basic. Everyone can do Math! Executive MBA: The Executive Masters of Business Administration

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

By Carl Mueller The Executive MBA (Executive Masters of Business Administration) is an increasingly popular option for business professionals who want to improve their skills and add a degree to their resume. The Executive MBA is also an increasingly popular option for business schools who realize that offering such a program can bring a great deal of income, prestige and attention to their school. With typical programs fees ranging from $20,000 - $100,000 (and perhaps even higher depending on the specific program and the demand) it’s not a cheap option. The idea behind the Executive MBA is to provide experienced professionals the opportunity to gain a professional university degree in business without having to quit their job. In this regard an Executive MBA can provide you with flexibility to continue your education without too much disruption in your professional and private lives. In addition to looking good on your resume, an Executive MBA can help you gain important insight into current and future trends in the business world, expose you to new contacts who might be relevant to your career and also help you improve upon existing skills or learn new ones that you can apply in your current position. Increasingly, there are options available for busy, working professionals who want to attain a certain educational level but don’t have the time to do so with “traditional” classroom-led programs and might not have the ability to quit their job to pursue it. For more information on the Executive MBA and other educational options including online options, visit http://www.find-your-dream-career.com/executive-mba-program.html Carl Mueller is an Internet entrepreneur and professional recruiter who has written an ebook for career-minded individuals: http://www.RecruiterSecretsRevealed.com Recruiter Secrets Revealed sheds light on job search and career management “secrets” that you can use to supercharge your career and distinguish yourself from other job searchers. The God Delusion and The Self Delusion in Buddhism

Friday, March 7th, 2008

By Soei Tan Marx said religion is opium, Dawkins (”The God Delusion (TGD)” )argued that God is a delusion. The debate on TGD has been very heated, to get some idea, read The Huffington Post for a summary of Dawkins’ position and about 580 comments running across 24 pages. Most discussions are related to Christianity, what about Buddhism? Buddhism is regarded as Pantheistic, and sometimes agnostic, so the clash with Dawkins is not expected to be as sharp. First thing to note, however, is that there are many schools of Buddhism, with very different views about God. Theravada (or doctrine of the Elders) is definitely agnostic, and refuses to go into intellectual arguments about things not here and now. It focuses on the purification of the mind, which if achieved, could provide answers to the difficult questions. Discussing it now when our minds are full of mind viruses is futile. It is told that the historical Buddha, an ordinary person, said that he can only point the way, everybody needs to tread their own paths. This is different from Stephen Jay Gould’s ‘NOMA’ - ‘non-overlapping magisteria’. Gould claimed that science and true religion never come into conflict because they exist in completely separate dimensions of discourse. Other schools of Buddhism believe in certain Gods and Goddesses, such as bodhisattvas, who have vowed to help all sentient being to be liberated. Such boddhisattvas are worshipped for their superpowers. These schools would be at loggerheads with Dawkins. Other schools believe in Buddha-nature, or in Sunyata (Emptiness), which is some kind of Pantheism, similar to what Spinoza and Einstein believed. “Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: It transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural and the spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, as a meaningful unity.” Albert Einstein Is Buddhism a meme? Going further to Dawkins earlier work “The Selfish Gene”, where he introduced the term meme as a unit of cultural transmission, we may ask if Buddhism is a meme. Dawkins said that religions or religious practices and rituals are complexes of memes or memplexes. Some of the Buddhist rituals are definitely memes, but it is interesting to hear Susan Blackmore, the author of “The Meme Machine” about meditation: “if a meditational system such as Buddhism is a meme, then it is actually a very peculiar one - a meme-clearing meme.” Meditation is a tool to be aware of the viruses in our mind, including religions. The self delusion Finally, the central tenet of Buddhism is the no self doctrine: no self, no soul, no reincarnation. It regards the Self Delusion as a much serious problem than the God delusion. I wonder if Dawkins would regard self as a delusion. Easy Steps to Installing a Router Extension On Your Table Saw

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

By Johnathon S. Duvel Several companies sell router table extension wings. Woodpeckers Inc. is one of these companies. Using their versions of the router table extension wings as an example, you can see how easy it is to add this helpful addition to your table saw. In our example, you will install the router extension table on the left side of your table saw. Other models may require a different configuration, but the process will essentially be the same. Made of 1″ thick MDF laminated on both sides with a matte white high pressure laminate which brings the final thickness to 1 1/8th inches, the extension table is 21″x28″. The router extension table also has a white plastic edging. In this particular model, the mounting package includes four brackets to mount the router extension table wing to the rails, phenolic insert with four aluminum spacer rings, stiffener rails, hardware and instructions. Installing the extension table is easy enough that it should not take you more than an hour to finish. Step 1 Remove the left wing of your table saw. Step 2 After removing the existing table wing, you are going to mount the router table extension wing brackets to the rails per the instructions using the supplied T-nuts. Use the larger washers provided for this step. Put the T-nuts and washers together and slide four sets into the channel on both the front and back rails. You can then slip the brackets onto the hardware behind the washers. Step 3 Line the outer brackets up with the end of the rail and snug the nuts down but do not completely tighten them. The inner brackets should be positioned about 2″ from the saw table and also snugged down but not tightened. You do not want them completely tightened since they may have to be moved left or right to avoid interference with the stiffeners or to level the table. Step 4 The insert cutout is going to be off-centered in the table. Flip the table upside down on the brackets with the widest part of the insert offset to the left or outside of the saw. Put one stiffener bar about an inch from the left side of the table and drill pilot holes for the screws. A helpful hint is to use blue tape on the drill bit to set the depth of the holes to make sure that you go all the way through. After drilling the pilot holes, you can screw down the stiffener. Repeat this process for the other stiffener placing it about an inch or so to the outside of the left edge of the insert cutout. Step 5 If necessary, adjust the bracket or stiffener placements to avoid interference. After this is done, turn the table back over. Step 6Next, you will attach the brackets to the bottom of the table. Drill a pilot hole first and secure each bracket with just one screw. Before finishing, make sure the brackets and stiffeners don’t interfere with each other and then finish the bracket installation. Step 7 Now, it is time to position the table and brackets. Using a rule, set the table level front and back to the saw’s table. Also check that the router extension table is flush up against the table saw. Step 8 If the table is not exactly flat or sags, loosen the middle screw on the stiffener and insert a spacer. The space could be a piece of card stock that is the size of the sag. Once the screw is tightened again. The spacer will make the table flat. Step 9 Now, it is time to put in the insert. The 3/8″ black phenolic insert sits on a rabbet in the MDF tabletop. To level the insert in the opening, it has 8 leveling setscrews. You can adjust each one a little bit at a time going back and forth between all the screws until the insert is level and stable. Step 10 This particular brand, Woodpecker, will pre-drill the mounting holes in the insert according to which router you tell them you will be mounting. Using the screws they provide, you now just mount your router to the insert on the router extension table. This is just one option for a router extension table. You particular table saw may have a specific router extension table sold as an accessory. Whether you buy yours from Woodpecker or as an accessory, attaching the router extension table will offer you convenience in your woodworking shop. 5 Ways to Fund Your Child’s College Education

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

By John Edmond Did you know that the cost of a 4 year degree program is around $20,000 dollars per year. The cost of a college education is probably the most expensive item in bringing up children today. When you take into account tuition fees, exam fees, living expenses, accommodation, books and computers it’s not surprising that the average cost of college education is over $20,000 per year and that’s before the social side of college life. Today we live in a world where only the best educated and most prepared can succeed. The Job market is probably the most crucial and competitive element of our society and having a college education and degree goes a long way towards succeeding in it. When our children are ready to enter the world of work it will be even more difficult and a college education will be essential to succeed. Here are 5 ways to fund your child’s college education. 1. The usual method of parental funding of college education is out of current income, that is out of your weekly or monthly salary. Whilst this is the most common method of funding college education it is one that only the very rich or highly paid can afford to do with ease. Even if there are 2 salaries most families find it difficult and will require sacrifices, even more so if you have more than 1 child. At best most parents can only afford to contribute part of the costs of college education out of current income. Additional sources of income will be required. 2. Your child can work his or her way through college. Many students have to work whilst studying but many find the experience of juggling a job, lectures and a social life very difficult. Often the result is that students drop out of college education, fail their exams or don’t do as well as they could. 3. Your child may have the opportunity to take out student loans to fund their college education. Today the vast majority of students are forced to take out student loans to fund all or part of their college education. Usually to subsidize parental contributions, student loans are the most common way of students funding their own college education. Many students however, leave college with substantial debt and even with interest rates at historically low levels today’s students can expect to have to pay substantial monthly repayments for many years. 4. Your child may obtain a scholarship or be entitled to grants from either federal or local funds towards the cost of their college education. There are many sources of student scholarships or grants and with a bit of research most students today can find some grant funding. These sources however cannot be guaranteed for the future. Whilst scholarships and grants do not have to be repaid and as such are preferable to loans they are not guaranteed or predictable and therefore relying on them for our children is a risk. 5. Take out an education savings plan to fund college education. An education savings plan is a regular saving plan into which you and your children can contribute. The plans are administered by colleges or state authorities and can be taken out for any child including a newborn babies. Because of the effects of long term compound interest the earlier you take out your plan the easier it will be and the lower your contributions will be. Because the funds are built up prior to going to college students do not have to rely on scholarships, grants or loans and they can concentrate on their studies. There are a number of options to fund your child’s college education but the only way funds can be guaranteed is by you taking out an education savings plan. With the education savings plan you decide what you can invest and your child can also contribute to his or her college education. With luck scholarships and grants will still be available as will loans to top up if necessary. If your child does not go to college the fund can be cashed in. Taking out an education savings plan early will give your child the real opportunity of a college education and the best prospects for a job when they leave college. John worked for many years in insurance and finance and recently completed a degree in Creative Writing. He now writes on a number of topics including education. Knowing the Causes, Treatment and Prevention of Cervicogenic Headaches

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By Lee Dobbins Did you know that only 8% of all headache episodes in people around the world are caused by migraine? You may wonder, what is the cause of the majority of throbbing headaches? Sinusitis and dental surgical procedures can cause headache episodes, but they still are not the top major cause of most headaches. So you may wonder, what is it? The answer - a majority of headaches are categorized as cervicogenic headaches. Cervicogenic headaches usually originate from inside the structures of your neck. Many people are surprised how the neck can become a source of severely painful episodes of headaches. Experts believe that the neck is one of the most vulnerable parts of the human body. That is because the neck, especially the area near the shoulder region, absorbs the bodys overall tension. Sustained neck movements also cause throbbing pains that would climb up to the head area. Cervicogenic headaches are not easily diagnosed, No medical test or x-ray could definitely detect the presence of such types of headaches. It is thus important that the patient carefully determine the sources of the pain. You know how your overall performance at work and in school can be affected by the presence of any type of headache. Throbbing pains at the head really can feel devastating, and could almost give a feeling like the head is going to explode. Several symptoms of cervicogenic headaches include nausea and severe, stabbing, throbbing and pounding pain originating from the neck area up to the head. Pain originating from the inside or the back of the eyes can also be identified as cervicogenic in nature. These headaches can occur occasionally. There are cases, however, that a patient suffers from regular episodes especially when the source of the headaches is not properly identified and appropriately dealt with. There is also a growing number of patients who complain of such episodes. Treatment for cervicogenic headaches is not increasing in number, though. Traumas and history Other than those mentioned above, people who suffer from cervicogenic headaches can also have head traumas in the past. Severe head injuries in the past can strike back in the form of cervicogenic headaches. No studies have yet found that such headaches can arise from hereditary causes. But if you have suffered from such before, you are susceptible to suffering from it again in the future. Otherwise, it still is of no guaranty that you would be spared from the painful head experience. Treatment for cervicogenic headaches The key to treating cervicogenic headaches lies in effective physical therapy. Services of expert spines therapists, particularly, should be sought if you are aiming to alleviate the pain completely or treat the disease. It is not easy treating cervicogenic headaches. The devastating pain also leads difficulties in finding relief and eventually, cure. Neurologists are continuously striving to find the much needed treatment. Currently, there are available treatments but they are still too expensive and not easily accessible. The most potent and common treatments for such headaches are in the form of injectible drugs. However, such injections should be carefully administered. As such, these injections are administered using x-ray guides to make sure the drug is injected at the appropriate area of the joint blocks. Take note that the area around the neck is one of the most complex regions of the human anatomy. That is why, doctors and experts make sure that the injections to treat cervicogenic headaches are administered by highly skilled and competent professionals. Any error in the injection can lead to more serious injuries and medical complications. As a patient, you should also take part in ensuring that the professional who would inject you with cervicogenic drugs should be well capable and credible in doing such a complicated activity. Prevention There is no direct and identified prevention measures that could certainly help a person avoid episodes of cervicogenic headaches. However, as always, you are advised to take healthy diets, get proper sleep and reduce overall tension. Regular consultation with your doctor and health monitoring initiatives can also be of great help. Being totally healthy, physically and mentally, can really do a lot of wonders. Start adopting a healthier lifestyle now. Target Market - 3 Big Reasons You Need To Know Yours

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By Maggie Dennison Rule Number One when writing marketing materials is “Know Your Target Market.” There’s a lot of foundational work to do before you ever put a word on paper but this is the place to start. What happens when you define your target market and become intimately acquainted with their needs and problems? 1. Prospects who read your materials will know exactly why they need you There’s a big difference between marketing to just anyone who crosses your path and a target market of seniors over 65, who own their own homes. A senior over 65, who owns her own home, has very specific needs. When you know her needs you can develop a sharply focused marketing message that makes her feel you’re talking directly to her. And guess what? When she feels that you understand her, she’ll be more willing to do business with you. 2. It gives direction to your product or service “The Apprentice” is a hit TV series where two opposing teams are given a business project to complete. In the first episode of the second season, their assignment was to develop a new toy for Mattel, the largest toy manufacturer in the world. During the project evaluation, a Mattel executive said: “In this business you always want the kids to steer you.” In the end the losing team was told that their idea showed a lack of understanding of what children want and like. Bingo! They had not paid attention to their target market - children. And they lost. When you define your target market and know their likes and dislikes, you can direct all your ideas and resources towards this group. Rather than trying to be all things to all people, your business will gain focus. 3. It’s easier to plan an effective marketing strategy Knowing your target market helps you decide how and where to promote your business. If you’re targeting doctors, then you can decide how and where to find doctors to talk to. On the other hand, if you’re targeting corporate executives, it’s clear that you won’t achieve your objectives by hanging out with small business owners. The result: less time wasted running down marketing cul-de-sacs, more time dedicated to finding and talking to your perfect clients. Have YOU identified your target market? Ten Questions For Entrepreneurs To Ask Themselves

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

By Alvah Parker Ten Questions For Entrepreneurs To Ask Themselves 1.Do I have the persistence and patience necessary to be a business owner? It would be nice if once you wrote your business plan all you needed to do would be to execute flawlessly and everything would fall into place. Maybe it happens to a few businesses but usually in some part of the plan you get different results than you expected. It takes patience to wait for the result in the first place. It takes persistence to keep updating your plan and then trying something else until you find how to make it work. 2.Does this business idea really energize me? Am I really excited about it?If your vision of this business is really compelling it will give you the energy to move forward on your idea. The energy allows you to persist even when things are not going as planned and it helps you to generate enthusiasm in others. 3.Can I generate enthusiasm about my idea from others? New business owners have to spend most of their time marketing initially. If the business owner him/herself can get others excited about his/her business idea, then that is the first step in generating interest from a customer/client or a strategic partner. The owner must be able to articulate the idea in a way that is convincing to the customer or client. 4.Am I convinced that I am exactly the right person to own this business? Can I articulate why? Self-confidence is important in the success of the business. You must believe in yourself before others will believe in you. 5.Do I have the commitment necessary to put aside other interests to focus my energy on this business? There will be lots of distractions while you start your business. Are you willing to commit to whatever it takes to get the business up and running successfully? 6.Am I able to quickly recover from setbacks and not take things personally? Can you still keep working and feeling confident even on a day that a big client or big prospect decides against using your service or buying your product? 7.Who will support me in this endeavor? It helps to have people in your life that appreciate you and really want you to succeed. Family support is critical because youll need to spend large amounts of time working and your family needs to understand this. Mentors, colleagues and coaches also are important for advice and encouragement. 8.Do I have enough financial reserves to carry me until I am profitable?Your business needs enough capital to get going until it is profitable. You also need money in reserve for your personal expenses if things get tight. Worrying about money will sap your energy. 9.What weaknesses do I have that may get in my way as I start this business? What will I do about them?Identifying your weaknesses and strengths is an important task. Use your strengths in running your business and find ways to off load the tasks you are not good at. Shore up those weaknesses as best you can in the beginning when finances are tight. Being aware of them is the first step. 10.What is my intuition telling me about this venture?Be in tune with your intuition. Business people get caught up in the analytical part of the business. The numbers are very important in running your business but dont ignore what your gut tells you. Leave some time in your day to spend time thinking about your vision. (Daydreaming!)
